Охота на Стенбока

Steenbok is the largest antelope in the group known to hunters as the “Tiny Ten”. It is commonly found in Southern and East Africa where protected from marauding dogs. This species is found on open plains and cattle farms with a preference for drier unstable or transitional habitats. These animals are found in the following countries where it may be hunted: Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

Being a shy territorial animal, these animals prefer long grass but will wander out into the open or onto road verges to graze. They are most active in the early morning and evening and will rest up in the shade during the heat of the day. When alarmed they will lie flat in the grass with its ears pinned back to avoid detection. This behaviour comes in quite handy if you are a bow hunter who can pinpoint the spot where the Steenbok is concealing itself and sneak in very quietly to take a shot. They will flush at the last minute, taking off a great speed. Sometimes they are known to stop and look back which will give you an opportunity to take a shot. Often hunted as a chance encounter
