Red-flanked duiker hunting in Cameroon

Red-flanked Duikers are small russet-red Duiker. They have greyish-black legs and black along their spinal ridge with a white underbelly. Males have longer backwards-pointing horns than the females and for their size, they have large ears. These Duikers are mainly solitary and when paired they will occupy a small territory. Red-flanked Duikers are Savannah Duikers and a very adaptable species which is now flourishing in logging areas and farmland areas where the natural habitat has been changed to more open savannahs. They can also be found along riparian (river-side) forest margins. Red-flanked Duikers are a diurnal species best hunted in the early mornings and late afternoon and often found where feeding monkeys and baboons drop fruit, flowers and leaves from the treetops, onto the ground. They will also stand on their hind legs, like goats, to find feed above their normal reach. Red-flanked Duikers are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required. A prearranged hunting licence must be purchased before the hunt begins.
