Why Mexico

World-Class Deer Hunting
Enjoy hunts for Sonora’s huge desert mule deer and the elusive Coues white-tailed deer in the high mountains

Desert Sheep Hunting
Mexico is the primary destination for hunters seeking a desert bighorn

Tradition and Food
Mexico has a long hunting tradition. Hunting camps are usually staffed with highly knowledgeable local guides and serve outstanding traditional Mexican food
About hunting in Mexico
From the beautiful desert mountains of Sonora in the north to the exotic jungles of the Yucatan in the south, Mexico features a wide variety of habitats and game animals that attract hunters from around the world. Hunting in Mexico is conducted on both private ranches and government reserves, and wildlife has been generally well managed in recent years, resulting in healthy populations of the most desirable game animals. Mexico is perhaps best known for its huge desert mule deer, but it is also an excellent destination for desert bighorn sheep, white-tailed deer, Coues deer, mountain lions, and both white-lipped and collared peccary. Mexico’s jungles feature species that can be hunted nowhere else in North America, including the red and gray-brown brocket deer and the ocellated turkey. Hunters also flock to Mexico to take advantage of its outstanding wing shooting for doves and many species of waterfowl.

Visas and Firearms
Citizens of the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, and the EU are not required to obtain a Mexican visa for a tourist visit. If you are bringing your own firearms to Mexico, a permit from the Secretary of National Defense is required, and this must be arranged well in advance with the help of your outfitter. Double check that all serial numbers and other information are correct, or you could be in for problems at the border.

The accommodations, the food, the hospitality of our host, were all first class! The opportunity to hunt trophy class desert bighorn with a bow is unmatched! An amazing experience!
Only the 2d year this ranch has been in operation as a hunting ranch. So the quality and size of avaliable trophies for both bighorn and mule deer is impressive, however, the lack of a professional hunter at the ranch created some mistakes and frustration that might have easily been avoided.

Alfonso gave me exactly what I asked for. Authentic Sonora ranch food. We navigated the extensive network of roads daily in rough, raw mountains and dry washes. Glassed from high points and checked all the “tanks” or watering holes. We saw lots of does, spikes and fawns. We saw a shooter buck at least once a day. Armando, a young guide road in the back of the Hilux the last 3 days and increased the number of dear seen x3. Mario the ranch foreman was on top of my needs around the updated hunting hacienda. Miss Rosa was brought in to cook for us all so we could spend all are energy hunting. I loved staying out all day and having burritos heated on an impromptu mesquite fire for lunch.
It was post rut with a full moon! The grey ghosts of the Sonora Mountains are very hard to spot, except in the yellow grass, which is maybe 5% of the landscape.
The third morning I passed 225 and 320 yard shots on the same buck in a gusty 10-25 mph wind. I thought he was OK in the field, but we had most of three days left. After viewing the video he was complete (unbroken) 4x4 and Alfonso thought he was 100”. We could not find him again believe me we tried.

We both tagged out on turkeys on the first day! Big birds and they are plentiful.
Much colder than expected. Should’ve brought more gear.

Johan was an extremely polite fun guide. We hung out with his family and friends during, after, and before the hunt, super fun and I will be telling all my buddies about it. Best part is, we were successful. And I was able to get a trophy stag!
