The Outdoor Adventure Company is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Big Game Guide Service in Maine and New Hampshire. We pride ourselves in offering the Best Guided Hunts. Maine has the largest continuous forest east of the Mississippi River. 90 percent (17.8 million acres) of Maine is forested, the highest percentage of any state. This includes 12 million acres in the northern part of Maine that is home to the Outdoor Adventure Company. Maine is the only state in the union with Canada to the west, north and east. Its size is where Maine got the nickname “the Big Woods.” The Granite state has some of the largest mountains on the east Coast. Both Maine and New Hampshire offer many outdoor recreational opportunities.
The Outdoor Adventure Company leases over 30,000 acres specifically for bear hunting and has access to all 3.5 million acres in the Maine North Woods during Moose, Deer, and Grouse seasons. Turkey season sees the OAC team traversing the central and southern counties to hunt secured farms and public hunting areas. Our 700-acre base camp and farm are in Guilford, Maine on the Sebec shore road with access to Sebec Lake.

The State of Maine has the largest black bear population in the lower 48. Our success rates far exceed the big outfitters, and we provide that personal touch that gives our clients a rewarding memory. OAC has over 50 bait sites that cover three Wildlife Management Zones (14, 9, 8, 4). With over 30,000 acres of leased land, we have some of the best bear ground in the state. During our world-class hunts. We will deliver you to the stand and return to get you when legal light fades. The OAC team will provide tree stands or the hounds. You will stay at our new Central Maine base camp in Guilford Maine or one of our remote camps north of Moosehead. When the hunter is successful, we get your trophy out and to your desired location to be caped and butchered. Bait hunts are conducted the first two weeks of the season and bait and hound hunts are conducted the last 2 weeks. We only run 6 to 9 hunters per week. You will receive personal attention and individual accommodation. If you would like to be filmed by a friend or family member for the hunt, we can accommodate this. This is the advantage of booking with the OAC; you are treated as family. We want your quest to be memorable. So, book early and come “Live your own Adventure” in Maine. Camp Harding is our base camp located in Guilford Maine at the foothills of Buker mountain on the edge of zone 14 and zone 9. We have several remote sites that are utilized based on where we find Moose. We also utilize Pittston Farm facilities for zone 8 and 4 hunts.

Big Game

Maine’s big game species are White-tailed deer, Moose, Black bear, and Wild turkey. Maine issues a general Big Game Hunting License to residents and non-residents which covers most game (Moose and Turkey require additional permits).

Deer: With a big game license, a hunter may take one antlered deer annually. Taking an antlerless deer is only allowed if the hunter obtains an Antlerless Deer Permit through Maine’s lottery which is held in summer and is open to both residents and non-residents.

Moose permits are run by lottery. Hunters (residents and non-residents) must apply each year by May for a chance to win a Moose permit allowing the harvest of one moose of a specified sex in a specific wildlife management district during the assigned week in fall. Non-residents are capped (no more than ~10% of permits).

Black bear requires no lottery, but hunters must purchase a Bear Permit in addition to their big game license if hunting Bear prior to the general firearms deer season. During the firearms deer season a big game license alone lets a hunter take a Bear with no additional permit.

Wild Turkey hunting in Maine requires a Turkey Permit in addition to a base license The permit covers both spring and fall seasons. There is no lottery for turkeys – permits are unlimited.

Small Game

Maine’s small game includes partridge, snowshoe hare, woodcock, pheasant (stocked in limited areas), migratory birds as well as furbearers like coyote, fox, raccoon. A standard Small Game Hunting License allows hunting all of these species.

Woodcock hunting requires an additional free HIP registration plus a Maine Migratory Bird Permit.

Waterfowl hunting requires a Maine State Migratory Waterfowl Permit and the Federal Duck Stamp.

Documents Required

Maine Big or Small Game Hunting License.
A valid Moose Permit, Bear Permit (if hunting before firearm deer season), Turkey permit in accordance with the hunted species
Maine Migratory Waterfowl Permit, Federal Duck Stamp and HIP confirmation for waterfowl
Hunter Safety Course Certificate
Archery hunters need a separate Bowhunter Education if getting an Archery license.

Minimum Hunter Age

The minimum age to get a junior hunting license in Maine is 10 years old. Children under 10 may accompany adults but may not hunt or tag game. Juniors (ages 10–15) can hunt with a junior license, which requires them to be under direct adult supervision of a licensed adult at all times. At age 16, a hunter needs to purchase an adult license and must have completed hunter education. Maine’s apprentice program allows those 16 or older who have not done hunter ed to buy an Apprentice License (available to both residents and non-residents).
