We have guided on the Mighty Tahr since 1993 and have earned aa reputation of getting our clients stunning Trophy Tahr. On the private properties that we have access to, you will see plenty of Bull Tahr every day. The properties are only a short drive away from the lodge. This hunt is on a spot and stalk basis. We base out of our lodge for the duration of the hunt and carry packed lunches for the Tahr hunt days. For the very best Tahr capes we recommend that you hunt Tahr from late April onwards. They are in the rut from the beginning of May until the end of June.

We have access to several private ranches that have Tahr, Chamois, Red Deer and Fallow Bucks on them, with the biggest ranch being over 90,000 acres. All of the Tahr properties are only a short drive from our beautiful lodge. 1 hunter and 1 non-hunter is included in this package. The property where we hunt the Stags and Fallow Bucks is only a 15 minute drive and can be seen from the lodge. The hunts are all on a spot and stalk basis.

Lochinvar Lodge

Lochinvar Lodge is located in a rural setting on the outskirts of Fairlie, a small farming township just 2.5 hours from Christchurch on the spectacular inland route south to Tekapo, Wanaka and Queenstown. This is your luxurious base and is only a short distance from most of our hunting. Lochinvar Lodge was built for the exclusive use of Lochinvar Safari clients/hunters. It is spacious, centrally heated and welcoming - the perfect place for you to relax and enjoy after your day's adventures. The large bedrooms with super king beds, private bathrooms and heated floors have spectacular views of the surrounding alpine landscape including Devil's Peak, Fox Peak and Mt Dobson. The dining room and kitchen are separate from the lounge and the whole place is spacious, warm and welcoming creating a very comfortable environment to relax and enjoy. We pride ourselves on our hospitality, delicious food and wine! When you stay at "Our Place" you will enjoy excellent New Zealand wines, excellent food and excellent company.

We meet and greet you at Christchurch airport, then transport you to our lodge, via a beautiful 2 1/2 hour drive or if you choose to rent a vehicle, its a stunning drive to our place. We can also pick you up from a hotel in Christchurch if needed. Christchurch is the pickup/drop off point.
