About hunting in North Dakota
The Prairie Pothole region, which stretches through central and southeastern North Dakota, is the breeding ground for the majority of the nation’s duck population. In addition, North Dakota’s location along the central flyway means vast flocks of migrating ducks and geese make their way across the state every fall. This “duck factory” in the northern Midwest is, therefore, an outstanding waterfowl destination. North Dakota is also a hot spot for hunting wild pheasants, and there are hundreds of great places to find these colorful upland birds, from the grasslands near Mott, “The Pheasant Capital of the Nation,” to the fencerows near Ellendale. In addition to pheasants, North Dakota has many other upland birds to hunt: Hungarian partridge, greater prairie chicken, ruffed grouse, sage grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, and wild turkeys. North Dakota also has excellent big-game hunting for a variety of species. The state is best known for deer hunting, from big mule deer in the Badlands to trophy whitetails on the plains. The sparsely populated state has a low hunter density, good trophy quality, and high success rates for deer. North Dakota has produced the third most Pope and Young whitetail bucks per hunter of any state in the past few years. North Dakota also offers limited hunts for bighorn sheep, elk, moose, and pronghorn. All big-game licenses are allocated by lottery. All big game hunters, including bowhunters, are required to wear at least 400 square inches of blaze orange when hunting while the regular firearm deer season is in progress. 2019 Waterfowl Hunt United States
Waterfowl hunts run on a daily fee type basis at 400/hunter/day(that is including lodging) plus sales tax of 6% I have been hunting waterfowl and whitetail deer in the Sheyenne River Valley most of my life. My guiding experience began 7 years ago with waterfowl and, as of 2016, included whitetail. Additionally, I have been a waterfowl guide in Texas for the past 3 years and in Canada for the past 2 years. The Sheyenne River Valley area is in the center of the Prairie Pot Hole region in South Eastern North Dakota. We have access to 12,000+ acres in and around this area. The ground that you will be hunting is home to trophy class whitetail deer and is the breeding ground to 80% of the nation’s duck population. This area is also considered a #1 hotspot for migrating waterfowl during the spring and fall! We pride ourselves by having working hard to obtain ample knowledge of the properties inside and out through scouting during the summer, planting food plots, other summer field work such as, hanging stands, continually checking trail cameras, and keeping up-to-date on the animals moving through.
