About this hunt

WHAT TO EXPECT? From november we winter stalk the capercallie with rifles when they sit in the top of the trees. Temperatures can vary from 0 to -30 degrees, in order to stay warm we skii and stay active. This type of hunt is a challenging hunt where we skii or go with snow shoes for several kilometers per day. It requires that the hunter is in good physical condition. This is the opposite of the ”sit-and-wait-hunt”. The average shooting distances vary between 150 – 200 meters. However the shots are often calm and with shooting support from padded snow. The vital impact is small on a capercallie/black grouse, and the shot have to be precise due to the long distances. Capercallie/black grouse winter stalking is considered as one of the most difficult game to hunt. The birds have sharp vision and hearing, and once spotted, you have to carefully sneak towards them until they’re in range. The capercallie is the real king of the swedish forest. A capercallie/black grouse shot by winter stalking is equivalent with the trophy of a bullmoose – therefore many hunters choose to convert their carefully shot birds into a trophy through a taxidermist. WHAT TO EAT? We cook lunch and dinner outdoors over an open fire, in order to achieve a true wilderness experience. Such as swedish "palt" or swedish "köttbullar" made out of moose, grilled over muurikka, or sausages barbecued over an open fire. If we have a succesful hunting day, we cook what we have shot for dinner. On our mid-hunt breaks, we enjoy swedish fika. Some other of our swedish specials you’ll have to try is the swedish caviar, the swedish sausage “falukorv”, clouderry jam on swedish pancakes, smoked reindeer crème cheese on the breakfast sandwiches, lingonberry jam & juice, swedens famous mixed candy and ofcourse – slicing cheese with a cheese slicer. All the food, drinks and alcoholic beverages are included in the daily fee.

Where you will stay

Tent cabin

On our multi-day hunts, we offer overnight accommodation next to the hunting area in our mobile tent cabin, which is heated with a diesel stove. There you sleep well in one of the sleeping mats with the sleeping bag - if you don't want another accommodation option in the form of, for example, a rental cabin. We usually cook the dinners on the multi-day hunts at Muurikka and at lunches something grilled is usually enjoyed over the fire at the break.
