Amazing professional hunters, beautiful country
Luke was my primary guide while Duncan was my guide for the chamois hunt. Both having grown up in the New Zealand mountains, they could both hike/climb like our target animals, but they were patient with my lesser abilities. Their ability to spot animals was impressive. My trip was in mid-April 2023, and the red stag roar and fallow “grunt” was full-on, but the tahr and chamois rut was to start about a month later. For my hunt, we went to three different areas at least 50 miles apart, and I stayed in three different accommodations. Carla the manager did a good job with juggling logistics with the different hunting groups.
Not a negative but a recommendation. Ask lots of questions, and ask to talk to one of the guides. My experience was that stag and fallow hunting can be done in a way that is not too taxing. But the big open country and mountains of the tahr and chamois country is quite a physical effort. I loved it!
OVER DELIVERED
Everything was like clockwork with the pickup, lodging, food, sleeping, etc. The hunt was typical for the first day and half. After several stalks we got up on a monster red stag with the help of the rain, I thought I got the perfect shot off when the big stud did 2 somersaults down the hill, I was celebrating, then the monster got up and vanished. We had a deflected arrow and a wounded giant red stag to find. I was questioning everything, the shot, shot placement, what went wrong, consequences, what now, etc. My guide stayed focused and calm and said "No Worries". He was correct, 25 hours later he found the Gold Stag bedded down while we were searching and glassing. We set up and waited 6.5 hrs for the shot, I made the perfect final shot. A lifetime memory with that trophy on the wall is a perfect hunt to me.
Absolutely nothing!

Well planned
Carla had the week layed out from the minute I stepped off the plane. I hunted with 3 different guides as each was uniquely qualified to help me target the game I was after. Awesome week ending with 4 great trophies.
