About this hunt

Hunting the secretive Sitka Black-tail Deer in the rainforests of southeastern Alaska is a relaxing, yet rather stimulating hunt. Hunts are taken in November, during the peak of the rut, or December, post-rut. Rut conditions and/or snow generally bring the deer down near sea level, however, hunters should be prepared to hike in a forest environment. Hunting is a walk-then-sit style. Bucks during the rut often readily respond to a doe or fawn bleat, coming to a simple call; often at very close range, making for an exciting experience. Post-rut hunts are more spot-and stalk type hunts with shots ranging 100-300 yards. Weather to expect in November/December:Rain/Snow mixture with temperatures in the low teens to low 40's. Daylight is low, morning light arrives about 7:30 am with evening darkness returning by 3:30 pm. Our Sitka black-tailed deer hunt are 6 days of hunting, travel days extra. 2017 brown/black bear combo

Accommodations aboard the yacht are first class. Mutts and Zach Decker are extremely knowledgeable about the animals and the areas they hunt them in. Great Christian atmosphere through the entire trip. I have 2 friends hunting brown bears with 2 different outfitters this season and they saw a total of 5 bears in 20 days. I was fortunate to take the 17th brown bear I saw on the 5th day!

I'm not a super patient person and hunting Brown bears with this outfitter is an afternoon affair. You normally don't get to sleep until after midnight. Most days go back out after 2:00 pm. Makes for a long boring day on the yacht.

Unique, challenging and rewarding

Great setting and the guides help you accomplish the impossible. It was physically and mentally challenging, but very satisfying. Hospitality and food were also great. Come fully prepared and ready to shoot from unconventional positions.
