About this hunt
Classical capercaillie and blackcock spring hunting in dense forests of Kirov region. Capercaillie is the relict bird, came to us as far back as the times of dinosaurs. A spring hunting a capercaillie, while uttering a mating call, gives us the unforgettable emotions. Some hunters go to this hunting only for the sake of listening to a capercaillie’s morning song in the awakening spring forest. To come to the capercaillie within a shot, it is easier while it is uttering a mating call. Usually, it is very cautious, but during performing a mating ritual, it does not hear not only suspicious rustles, but even a great noise. They shoot the capercaillie always “at singing”, while uttering a mating call, and if the shot missed the target, the bird does not pay any attention to it.

How to get there
You arrive to Moscow, any airport, then transfer to the railway terminal and take night train to Kirov region. Early in the morning train comes to Kotelnich station. The representative of the outfitter will meet you near the train car and transfer to the hunting estate.

Russian hospitality warm and welcoming
Honest, sincere, friendly, helpful and experienced guides. Clean, spacious lodge, hot showers, locally grown ethnic foods. Fun train ride through the countryside. Lots of grouse! Saw 3 brown bears.
Weather was cold and rainy. Very unusual for for this time of year in May. No different from any north country hunt. Environment similar to boreal forests of Canada.
