About this hunt

This is a 6 day Caribou hunt package with 4 full hunting days and 1 trophy Caribou license included to the price. The hunt is done on foot. So you have to be in a fairly good condition, so you can walk 5 km out, and 5 km back with 30 kg meat/trophy on your back in varied terrain. But the longer you can walk, the better are the chances for big animals. Octoberhunt is a bit colder, can be down to minus 20 celcius, men still long days, and not really cold weather as it is just the start of winter. So its almost like winterhunt.. The hunt is still traditional hunt on foot like in august and september, but it is possible to ad transport of all meat and trophy, so after the animals is skinned and cut its placed in a tent, and you can as a hunter continue your hunt without thinking about how we get the trophy and meat down. We then pick it up with dogsledge/skipulk/carry it. Compound bow hunting is possible only on 1x1 basis (7150 euro per package), crossbow hunting is not allowed. Caribou in our hunting area (sub area 5) is a free-range indigenous north american ”Central barren ground caribou”. But even though it's documented by the Greenland Nature Institute, not all hunting organisations see it that way, so SCI does not accept it into the SCI 29 Award. But Grand Slam Club Ovis accepts it into the Super Slam award. So please check it with you organisation if you are going for a award. The meat can not be exported according to the EU regulations, but you can bring up to 10 kg with you on your flight out of Greenland (please check meat import rules for your country). All harvested meat is used, either for human consumption, or as dogfood for my dogs depending on the quality. You must bring your own sleepingbag, there will be minimum +5 celcius in the camp at night We take max 4 hunters per group on this hunt. Success rate

Our succesrate for caribou in october er 100%, and we usually have real good hunts where we see more big bulls each day. Our succesrate for musk-ox in the area is over 95%, but the last couple of years we had a little fewer musk-ox in the area, especially late october, so for future hunts we still promish 95% succes, but only 75% chance of a big bull.

Where you will hunt

Territory

In autumn we have two concession areas (other outfitters can’t hunt there, but local hunters can go meat hunting in the areas). Both areas are unique, since area 9 is partially in the Inuit hunting World Heritage Site, and all of area 11 is in the World Heritage Site. Only our company and one other outfitter can offer hunts in this unique area. Concession area 11 is about 22.500 acres, and here we hunt in July, the first two hunts in August, and during all of October. The area is bounded by another concession area to the west, and a free hunting zone to the east. Transportation to this area is faster, just about 2 hours from the hunting camp, and all luggage is transported by a car and a boat to the camp. The easier access to the area results in many local hunters being there at the end of August and September, but at this time we are hunting in our other concession area.

Where you will stay

Camp

Our hunting camp is next to a big lake in the south side of the concession area, right where the best hunting in the area starts. The two first hunts in august in there is tentcamp. The octoberhunts is with heated mobile cabins. There will be 1 guide per 2 hunters, and there will be some work with cutting meat, salting and drying meat, skinning and preservation of trophies, and different camp work. So it's necessary that everybody helps out so that the guides have time enough for everything. We bring normal food, breakfast products, bread and cold meats, and we eat the meat from the animals we shoot, with potatoes and rice etc. After the hunt you stay at Kangerlussuaq Youth Hostel as included in the price.

How to get there

Navigation guidelines

When you fly here, then you travel to Copenhagen airport in Denmark, from there you fly with Air Greenland to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, where we pick you up at the airport. It is possible to fly over Keflavik in Iceland to Nuuk and then Kangerlussuaq. But it can give some problems with delays and luggage, and the price is almost the same. So we do not recommend that route. Even thow is possible to fly direct over Copenhagen, its more safe to stay overnight in Copenhagen, and if you come from far away like the US, then 2 nights is better. Its up to you to get here on the correct date. You must bring your home country hunting permit and/or weapons permit. This is required by the hunting adminstration. When bringing your own hunting rifle you also need to bring the weapon papers for that rifle to show at check on with the Airlines. Check in with hunting rifle at AirGreenland takes about 30 min extra because of paperworks, and the weapon has to be handed over at a special counter. But this is not complicated to bring a hunting rifle.

Opinion of Greenland Trophy Hunting

The hunt was physically challenging for me. I liked all the hard walking. I am 71 yo and my guides helped me by carrying my pack when I got really tired. They did not complain. They were very professional. There were plenty of animals. The food in camp was really good. The scenery and the Northern lights were incredible The wild Musk Ox and Carib. meat was great. The guides really worked to get me a close shot, ensuring a successful hunt.

It was really cold at night. If I knew it was going to be so cold I would have bought some warmer clothes. The weather was unusually cold not really the fault of the outfitter. In early Sept. I was not expecting it to be 14 degree F

Was a great hunting trip Everything and more than I thought. Eric has great guides and helpers. They put everything they had into getting everyone a great animal. Martin (guide) went out of his way to make sure everyone had the hunting experience they were looking for. Very hard hunt (physically) at this time of year.

Everyone at camp was a hunter and was willing to work very hard to get the game, and the experience.

The extra cost to take the game out of the wilderness.

Excellent hunting experience

Lots of big caribou. You should take a couple of days to find the right one. Don’t shoot the first one. Plenty of opportunities. Musk ox was more difficult to get but was able to get a good old bull the last day. Hunting area is great and cabin is warm and comfortable. True hunting experience. Guides are the highlight. Real good people who will work hard for you.

Great Adventure

My friend and I had a wonderful hunt! We tagged a caribou and two musk ox during day one. We know this rare and shouldn’t be expected during such a hunt but we made the best of the opportunity given! We saw many critters ( caribou, musk ox, hares, ptarmigan, and fox) and enjoyed hunting them with the entire team at Trophy Hunting Greenland. Erik was great to work with from day 1- quick to respond to emails etc. The accommodations were good and the guides very professional. For anyone looking to enjoy a great hunt, see beautiful country and enjoy a great camp experience, I’d highly recommend this hunting adventure!

For the fall hunt you need to be in very good physical condition.

Great Hunt

The first thing to consider is that you are hunting in Greenland. It is going to be cold. The hunting cabin was actually better than the outfitter described. Although it had no water, because of freezing temperatures, it was warm and comfortable. Before the trip, you will be housed at a hostel, again it was very nice and extremely clean and comfortable. The food was not fancy, but was very good. The hunting was off of snow-machines, then stalking. We saw good quality bulls and were able to stalk into good positions. I harvested two nice bulls, then also had time to hunt ptarmigan, snow hares, and arctic fox. Also did a little ice fishing.Guides were very knowledgeable and worked hard to ensure a good trip. I was able to bring about 10 lbs of meat home; although, wasn't sure it would make it through customs. I also built in some extra time for touring in Copenhagen, good city. You don't much touring time in Greenland. Good trip, good value.

My flight was cancelled leaving Greenland to Copenhagen due to mechanical issues, but luckily I had time built in to my trip and made connections. Get trip insurance or allow a couple of days in Copenhagen

Unique, once in a lifetime opportunity

I had the pleasure and privilege of hunting with Eric and his team in 2019. I was met with a friendly welcome at the airport by Eric himself and we made our way to his comfortable accommodation prior to the start of my hunt where we ate a delicious meal of Caribou steak and fries – a first for me! We went through my equipment together to ensure that I had packed correctly as per his recommendations whereupon Eric saw that my boots were not to the standard to ensure a comfortable and trouble-free hunt in the constant sub-zero temperatures. He very kindly lent me a proper pair of boots as well as a coverall to ensure that I was fully prepared for the cold. Setting out for camp on 3 snowmobiles, I was treated to a spectacularly scenic trip of about 45 minutes over frozen lakes and mountains. We stayed in a well-equipped cabin and went out every day hunting using the cabin as our base. The game is plentiful in his concession and we had daily sightings of Musk Ox, Caribou, Fox, Ptarmigan and snow Hare. Walking and stalking through thick snow in a monotone landscape is something that I am not used to, coming from the African bush. It is a very unique experience and definitely harder than I had anticipated. Walking through snow is another feat entirely and at times we would fall through the snow both up to my knees and at times up to my middle which was met with great laughter by all of us as you never knew who would be next. Whilst driving on the snow mobiles through the concession, we were constantly glassing and looking for Musk Ox that we would be able to access. We spotted a group of 6 bulls on day one, whereupon we stopped the vehicles and stalked the group who were on the opposite side of a blind rise until we managed to harvest a fantastic old Musk Ox bull as well as a meat bull for the Camp which we thoroughly enjoyed eating. Returning to camp with our quarry, I chose to assist with the skinning and butchering whilst Eric took the fresh backstraps from the Musk Ox to cook for supper. By the time we were done, dinner was ready and it was of the most delicious meat I have tasted. I never knew fresh meat could taste that good. Whilst eating dinner, I glanced out through the window and got my first glimpse of the Northern Lights which was just incredible. Day two set us up with a long walk and stalk onto a group of Musk Ox bulls once again where I managed to shoot a 25 year old bull – a once in a lifetime opportunity. We were also afforded the opportunity to hunt some Ptarmigan for the pot which was very unexpected and unique. On the morning of day 3, I had the unexpected addition of harvesting a snow fox close to camp after a short stalk of about 30m, after which we decided to go ice fishing but with little success. However on our return home I harvested a snow hare which was the absolute cherry on the cake for me. After traversing vast areas whilst hunting and seeing the accommodation that other people were staying in – I was extremely grateful to be staying in a warm cosy cabin and not just in a tent like some of the other places I had seen. On day 4, we moved to another area where we were based out of Eric’s B&B. This area afforded me the opportunity to hunt a lovely Caribou to supply the camp with meat for the next guests. This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and one that I will remember forever – not just for the trophies, but for the warmth of Eric’s hospitality and the unique landscape, food and company. I cannot recommend Eric and his operation more highly and would encourage anyone looking for a hunting experience like this to book with Eric for the experience of a lifetime.
