This hunter neglected to tell the whole story. A big weather system came through during their hunt, and we lost our ability to travel many of the backroads by 4x4. The storm also had an adverse effect on the amount of game we were seeing, as did the full moon. This was a Fair Chase hunt, with the Outfitter having no control over the weather, or the game hunted. (Which he signed off on in his contract) Folks who don't understand fair chase hunting are sometimes quick to blame everyone else for the bad weather, and the moon. This is why it's called "hunting." He did turn down a shot at a legal buck, and two more that he admitted seeing. After 47 years as a Professional Outfitter, I have seen a few tough hunts, and this year we had some. I will say this is the first bad review I have had in 16 years. I only advise what the particular dates of a hunt have done in the past, and I never tell people what they are going to see on their hunt, because I don't know. I don't sell trophy hunts, as these are public land hunts. Yet, you can see from our pictures and testimonials on our websites, that we do, sometimes, take nice animals. When you book a hunt with anyone, just remember that, because of weather or other variables, it can go south on you pretty quick. I have seen this happen on ranch hunts too. Attitude is everything, and the best hunters that I know, really just enjoy the hunt. When they do score, it's just an added bonus. So go with a heart full of hope, but never expect too much, and you will never be disappointed. This year we fell a little short of our 100% shooting goal that we usually achieve, but if the many past years are any indication of the future, we will likely achieve it again next year.
